Burnt Ranch is nearly as close to the Humboldt County coast as it is to Weaverville, however the coast has a lot more amenities. It's 53 minutes to Weaverville or an hour to Blue Lake. Salyer which has a general store is only 15 minutes west on Hwy 299, and Willow Creek is just over the Humboldt county line for basic supplies and is only 25 minutes away.

Burnt Ranch is the access point to Hyampom via Underwood Mountain Road. Traveling a little further east towards Weaverville (the county seat), you will run into Cedar Flat, followed by the towns of Del Loma, Big Bar and Big Flat.

Burnt Ranch is a boaters and outdoor enthusiast paradise. Among boaters its probably most well known for the Burnt Ranch Gorge. You'll know Burnt Ranch when you pass it if you're not blinking. The general store (now closed) has a kayak with a manikin holding a paddle mounted on the building. Although it's small it supports a thriving community with its own school.
